GS Caltex Professional Baduk Competition

In an effort to foster the game of baduk (or go), which exercises the brain, GS Caltex sponsors the GS Caltex Professional Baduk Competition. Hosted by Maeil Business Newspaper and organized by the Korea Baduk Association, the competition started in 1995 and has since contributed significantly in expanding the popularity of the sport and nurturing new players.

Korea Baduk League/KIXX Team

GS Caltex has been taking part in the Korea Baduk League, the world’s largest baduk team tournament. The league, Korea’s only team baduk competition, gained popularity among fans by introducing dynamic elements of other professional sports such as region-based teams, coaches and draft system. GS Caltex’s Kixx Team has been taking part in the league since 2006. The team is striving not only to win the title but to raise the level of the game and foster new players.

GS Caltex Maekyung Open

GS Caltex hosts the GS Caltex Maekyung Open Golf Championship to contribute to the advancement of the sport in Korea. Held every May, it is recognized as one of the most prominent golf tournaments in Korea with gallery attendance breaking records every year. In 2010, the tournament was added to the OneAsia tour schedule and broadcast worldwide via overseas sports channels.

GS Caltex Seoul KIXX Women’s Volleyball Team

Since the establishment of Honam Refinery Women’s Volleyball Team in 1970, GS Caltex has played a pivotal role in Korean women’s volleyball history. After the team transformed into a regional professional team in the 1990s, it captured the Super Series title nine consecutive times and wrote a new chapter in women’s volleyball history with a legendary run of 92 straight wins, setting an unprecedented record in ball sports in the 1990s. The team faced difficulties with the changing of guards in the 2000s but with the recruitment of new coaching staff and foreign players, it succeeded in regaining its past glory, winning the 2007 KOVO Cup and 2007-2008 V-league championships. After moving to Seoul from Incheon in 2009 and naming the first female head coach in 2010, the team is vowing to continue its celebrated legacy.

Ji Sung Football Club JSFC (Ji-Sung Football Club)

GS Caltex supports JFSC, the Park Ji Sung Football Club. Park Ji Sung, arguably Korea’s most famous football star who plays in one of the best clubs in the world, developed a plan to build a youth center where young talent can fulfill their dreams of becoming a great football player. For its part, GS Caltex promised to build and donate Kixx Park within the Park JI Sung Football Center located in Suwon. Kixx Park, which broke ground in October 2009, is comprised of a multimedia lecture room, Park Ji Sung hall, and indoor playground as well as two artificial grass pitches. The park embodies Park Ji Sung’s hope of creating a comfortable environment where children can have fun while developing their love for football. Opened in August 2010, we hope to see a new generation of world-class players produced at KiXX Park and Park Ji Sung Football Center.
