Oil Refining

Starting as Korea's first privatized oil company in May 17, 1967, GS Caltex has been playing a central role in the nation's oil and petrochemical industries, boosting the nation's economic development in the past 40 years. GS Caltex began its commercial operations in April 1969 with an oil refining capacity of 60,000 barrels a day. Afterwards, to respond proactively to increased oil consumption following economic development, increased demand for light oil, strengthened environmental regulations, and rapidly changing market environment, GS Caltex has invested in the expansion of its oil refining facilities five times, as well as in its desulfurization facilities, heavy oil cracking facilities, and residue fluid catalytic cracking units.

Currently, GS Caltex can refine 750,000 barrels a day, crack 155,000 barrels of heavy oil daily, desulfurize 272,000 barrels of kerosene and diesel daily, and utilize other facilities. GS Caltex provides premium products by using a wide variety of standards to satisfy customers.

Its Yeosu Complex embraces the slogan, ' Value No.1 Complex' after ensuring safety in its processes and securing quality management systems through a structuring of various systems to attain its zero-accident goal in terms of processing and quality. GS Caltex has introduced factory automation systems and various advanced technologies to its fourth crude oil refining facilities (with a capacity of refining 270,000 barrels a day) and RFCC units for cracking heavy oil, thus boosting efficiency in processing and operating capacity.

GS Caltex is determined to continue its innovation activities and Six-Sigma campaigns to reduce costs and enhance profitability and quality. Moreover, through its production planning systems, the first of its kind in Korea, GS Caltex efficiently manages the supply of crude oil, the operation of production facilities, and the capacity of product rollout and storage. Besides these efforts, GS Caltex is striving to diversify its crude oil suppliers in this rapidly changing global crude oil market, and to strengthen its environmental treatment facilities that are designed to treat various kinds of crude oil economically. By producing premium products for exports, GS Caltex is trying to diversify its clients and secure profitability. GS Caltex is also exerting every effort to produce environment-friendly products, such as low-sulfur gasoline and light oil for vehicles.
